Gaming, as we know it, has actually come a long way from where it began. It wasn’t always like this. So in this blog, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane to see how far we’ve come by comparing some aspects:

Graphics

The graphics have very significantly improved in the past 20 years. As consoles have become advanced and heavy computer graphic cards have made their way into the world, we find ourselves playing games that look almost real.

Gameplay

The gameplay and objectives have certainly become more complex and in a way, challenging. In the start the games used to be very simplistic like a plumber jumping on pipes or one-on-one fighting but as the time progressed, we saw storylines being introduced and games becoming more involving. These days, games have the main story, side quests an online mode and a lot more!

Multiplayer

In the past, the only way to play together with a friend or family member was both players playing on the same keyboard on split-screen. Then came LAN gaming and online multiplayer which meant players could go to a gaming café to play with their friends and even sit at home and play with a friend from afar on the internet.

Checking Out a Game before Buying

In the beginning there was no way to check out a game before purchasing it you just had to play it at a friend’s place or find out after purchasing it. Then came out gaming magazines which debriefed on newly released games and eventually, we got Youtube. Everything regarding a game that you want to buy can be found on the internet or Youtube ranging from game trailers to detailed reviews to even watching the gameplay.

Getting Stuck

Previously, if you got stuck somewhere in a game, you had to figure out how to progress on your own or take help from a family member or friend. Now if you can’t figure out what to do next in a game, a simple Google search is enough and you will get to forums where other players are discussing the problem and how to solve it. Moreover you can even find complete video walkthroughs of games on the internet

Cheat Codes

Back in the GTA Vice City and San Andreas days, players were huge fans of cheat codes which would either make the game a lot easier by providing advanced weapons and helping evade the cops or made it do something out of the ordinary like making the cars fly or be able to drive through the ocean. As the trend of online gaming grew, cheat codes became of less value and game developers started giving them less or no attention. However, with the advancement of technology, some people can now create unofficial mods of said games and change it drastically to cater their own desires

Esports Industry

The Esports industry as a whole has grown as first it was just one person playing on a computer but then the term ‘competitive gaming’ came around and brought a lot of money with it in the form of investments and sponsors. The gaming competitions now happen regularly, have huge prize pools and the public loves them!

Now as the technology advances even further, we can’t wait to see what the next generation of video games would bring.
